UVC TECHNOLOGY
WHAT IT IS
UVC is ultraviolet radiated energy, characteristic of a wavelength from 220 to 280 nanometers. The properties of UVC are somewhat similar to visible light with the exception that UVC light, is completely invisible to the human eye.
However, there are unique properties of UVC radiated energy which enable the disinfection of water, air and surfaces from microbiological organisms and virus. The process of utilizing UVC to disinfect is commonly known as - UVGI or Ultraviolet Germicidal Irradiation.
Since the discovery of UVC in the 1800's, artificially produced radiation has become an important method of decontamination. This expansive technology is being
used in portable and installed decontamination systems around the world in many configurations and for various specific applications to effectively disinfect microbial bacteria and viruses without the use of potentially harmful chemicals.
As example, UVGI has been deployed in the process of sanitizing drinking water for large municipalities. Some parasites are resistant to chemical disinfectants such as chlorine so UVC provides an effective and chemical free method of disinfection.
The technology is currently used to fight against deadly bacteria and viruses and is commonly deployed in hospitals, water
treatment, food processing, care facilities, airlines, public transit, hotels, residential homes and numerous other industries. In China, public transit cars and buses are being scanned with the ghostly blue light, while powerful UVC emitting robots are being introduced for cleaning high touch surfaces and floors in hospital operating rooms.
A careful and standard protocol of conventional cleaning along with good hygiene works well to eradicate bacteria and viruses breeding in our environment, but when combined with UVC Technology the success rate of bacteria and virus eradication can be measured closer to 99.99 percent.
IS IT SAFE?
UVA better known as black light, UVB used in tanning beds and UVC or germicidal UV, are all produced by the sun. Fortunately, the earth’s ozone layer naturally protects us from UVC which can cause burns to our skin, cancer, and possible blindness. Short term exposure to UVC without protective equipment will cause sunburn, and eye
irritation similar to conjuntivitis or welders flash, however the symptoms will dissipate over a period of a few days. But the answer to “is it safe ?” is YES - We actively employ trained individuals familiar with the safe use of UVC producing equipment and we use safeguards such as PPE, area sensors, and physical barriers to keep everyone safe and in compliance with local laws.
BACTERIA AND VIRUSES
Bacteria and Viruses are extremely resilient lifeforms and can survive on almost any type of surface for prolonged periods of time ranging from a few hours or days to sometimes weeks.
If left untreated these pathogens can cause extreme havoc to human health and well being. While dangerous surface pathogens can be eradicated by use of chemicals and various cleaners, they can also mutate and become more resistant to these conventional methods of cleaning.
UVC technology acts by directly attacking the DNA or RNA structure of a disease. Ultraviolet-C is effectively absorbed by the pathogens, resulting in lethal mutation of the DNA, RNA structure. This effectively eliminates the ability of pathogens to replicate which by definition is Inactivation or Disinfection and the result is rendered harmless to human health.
It is accepted science that UVC technology has shown great success in assisting to eradicate both SARS and MERS, [which are also corona viruses and closely related to COVID 19], and as a result UVC is now on the front line in the fight against COVID-19. Scientific and medical communities are focusing on urgent and innovative implementation of this proven method of inactivation.
